Snow was not as bad as advertised. Travel ban lifted 10:30AM - $300 fine before that if caught. Cuomo should not have shut public transportation down, as it turns out.

What they did regarding transportation made no sense.

for reals, I was out around 1:30a and the 1 train was still running, but apparently no one could ride it.

Except when they miss the forecast and people go out and die because people can be stupid, then everybody screams WHY DIDN'T YOU SHUT IT ALL DOWN. "They" can't win. Sucks that the forecast changed, but 30 miles west of NYC they got hammered.

Friend who made it through Katrina had me prep for Irene - Red Cross radio, fill the tub, bottled water, canned goods, batteries. The extent of the damage? About a 1/4 cup of water came in under one of the A/C units. Life can be good on the 9th floor.

you can say that now, but if they hadn't shut down the public transportation and the weather was as bad as they said it was going to be, everyone would be yelling at them that they didn't do their jobs properly to protect the public. Hindsight is always 20 20.

Not precisely - they ran the trains all night anyway to keep the tracks clear. They could have had people on them.

What happened is this - they blew it so badly during the 2010 snowstorm that they have overreacted ever since. Some transparency from the MTA would help, but you'll never get that.

*rolls eyes*

I guess we can't live in a society where decision making is logic-based.

NYC and DC overreact to snow - you guys just drive.

yeah but in your defence, We are equipped for the snow, just a normal day for us.

The plow passes at least 4-5 times daily in front of my house, all winter. Every hour when it's really snowing.

We spend a lot of money on preparedness as well, but we're just not as good at it. DC, where I used to live, is even worse.
